The Irish Stereotype

"Irish workers in Christchurch feel they have been unfairly labelled as drunks, and some are asked to say things like "fiddle-dee-dee potatoes" and "to be sure, to be sure" to amuse locals" - Georgina Stylianou

The Irish have always been the target of unreasonable stereotyping. Irish people are drunks is the most common of all. Other prejudices are -
  • They love to fight and swear
  • They wear green clothes most of the time
  • They have red hair
  • They generally have large families
  • And they love potatoes
